Hello, everyone

A big thank you to those that weighed in with ideas for the peace project I've been working on.  It's finished now, and going to the auction this evening to raise some money for a good cause.  

In the end, I went with a theme that came from suggestions that and made.  Then gave me the idea to include some cutesy animals, so I threw in a couple of foxes playing on the piece.  I'll be posting the deviation momentarily, so it will probably be up by the time anyone sees this.  

Thanks again for all the help, folks.  I was stuck in a big way on this piece, as it's a bit outside my normal subject matter.  You came through to help me make something that's a surefire hit.

Hello, everyone

I've taken on a project to develop a sculpture (no more than 12" high) that embodies the concepts of peace, nonviolence and/or war resistance.  I'm at a loss for subject matter, without reverting to any of the standard and somewhat tired symbology.  You folks see what kind of stuff I do with clay.  Any ideas for projects along these lines that my talents might lend themselves to?  All I can really offer is some creative credit when it's done and posted, along with that awesome feeling that goes along with helping out a fellow deviant.

While I'm not sure what the protocol is, I'll go ahead and say a big thanks to for the DD and to for recommending it.

I'm certainly excited about getting noticed around here, but it seems a daily deviation is a double-edged sword, as I now have more messages waiting than I actually thought possible.  Many hundreds, in fact.  So don't get offended if I don't respond promptly.  Honestly, my first reaction when I logged into my account this evening was "what in the hell?!?" at the message count.  Then came over to the computer and helped me sort it out.  She's an old hand at dealing with DD's now, having a few under her belt.

To sum up:

1. Getting a DD is awesome.
2. Hearing from so many people here on DA is awesome, but also time-consuming.
3. I need to go molest some clay and make something new and even stranger now.

Hello, everyone

I suppose I should start off by apologizing for my hiatus from DA.  I went to do other things for a while, and left a handful of projects on the bench, quite literally.  I'm coming back to things now, and getting my sculpting going again.

A big thanks to Vlei and crew for the Mythical Blind Date contest they ran recently.  Second place!  Not too bad...  I'll keep looking for contests I can enter sculptures into.  It was a good motivator to get to work.

I have a sea monster sculpture coming up soon as the second entry of a cryptozoology series, with more in design right now.  It's actually finished and painted, but needs mounting to the base and such.

In the real world, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  The Liberal party leader announced today his intention to finally oust the Conservative government here in Canada.  I pray for his success.  While Michael Ignatieff is certainly not what I would call a "fine, upstanding citizen", he's definitely a far sight better than what's in office now.
